Lesley, who passed away in Naples, Florida, was a dedicated family woman who also had a successful radio career. On April 17, her interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois, following a funeral service at St. John’s Anglican Parish.

Lesley Swick Van Ness Cause Of Death
Former Quincy resident and 42-year-old Lesley Swick Van Ness died on April 10, 2023, in Naples, Florida. There is no confirmation that she was killed in an accident; rather, the newscaster’s death has been attributed to illness.
Van Ness attended Hamilton High School in Elvaston, Hancock County, and went on to earn degrees from Illinois State University. She was living with her husband and two sons in Morton, Illinois at the time of her death.
When Van Ness became ill while on vacation with her family in Florida on Thursday, she was taken to the hospital, and she passed away on Monday.
For more than 8 years, Lesley has been a talent scout in the media industry. She oversaw all job postings for Gray Television’s 91 different television markets as Director of Talent Acquisition.
She spent five years as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Quincy Media before coming to Gray Television. Lesley worked as a recruiter for Quincy Media, an advertising agency based in Quincy, Illinois.
Her first job wasn’t in talent acquisition, though; for 13 years she was a news anchor at WGEM TV in Quincy, Illinois. She began as a producer but quickly rose through the ranks to become the weeknight anchor for the 5, 6, and 10 o’clock newscasts.
Lesley Swick Van Ness, a devoted employee who will be sorely missed, has passed away, and everyone is grieving her loss. Her work in the media industry, especially in the area of talent scouting, will be remembered fondly.

Lesley Swick Van Ness Funeral
Lesley Swick Van Ness’s funeral will be placed at St. John’s Anglican Parish on April 17, and she will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in Quincy.
The arrangements will be handled by Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors. There will be no viewing, but everyone is welcome to attend the service in her honor.
The obituary appeared in the April 11-12, 2023 issue of Herald-Whig. The family requests tree-planting ceremonies in honor of Lesley as an alternative to receiving flowers.
Doug Wilson from work, Kelly Cabrera, Randy, Jan Fleming, and many more have expressed their sympathy. Stella Daskalakis, one of the mourners, remembered Lesley as someone who was patient and understanding.
